Orient Mako Watches

For those of you who are into watches, these Mako Divers from Orient are most likely old news. For the rest of you, these beauties are well worth getting acquainted with. Firstly, they’re assembled in Japan, entirely from Japanese-made components (video here). Secondly, they’ve got some killer details, like a stainless steel case, bezel and band, mineral crystal face and day/date calendar. And thirdly, they’re only $285 a pop. You don’t have to be a watch-nerd to appreciate that.

I have the blue one and I absolutely love it.

This and the Bambino are my daily go-to watches. You really should never pay MSRP for them though. They’re frequently on Amazon for ~$130, and Orient always has a coupon for 30%+ off their website store. At these prices, Orient really makes some of the best bang-for-your-buck watches.

Re: CTP’s “shinola” comment, the main difference between the two — discounting where each is assembled — is that Orients are automatics, and Shinolas are quartz.
