Myriad Safety Violations Found at Trump Factory in Bangladesh

According to a new article from Racked, dozens of safety hazards are endangering thousands of workers at a Bangladeshi garment factory contracted to manufacture dress shirts for Donald Trump’s apparel brand.

The factory, known as Elite Garments Industries, is in violation of multiple standards mandated by the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety, a legally binding agreement signed in the wake of 2013’s deadly Rana Plaza collapse.

The report cites violations such as support columns that are “highly stressed,” an inadequate fire alarm system, electrical problems, and escape stairwells that are in danger of filling with smoke during a fire.

Despite long exceeded deadlines, the safety hazards – many of which have been “implicated in prior mass fatality disasters in Bangladesh” – remain uncorrected with labor groups saying, “any of these hazards has the potential to cause serious injury or death in a factory where almost 2,500 people work.”
