Mackintosh Hooded Nylon Overcoats

I know that the difference between a coat and a jacket is the length (past waist vs. at waist), but that bugs me a little bit. I think material and seasonal usage should play a factor, too. Take this Mackintosh Hooded Nylon Overcoat, for instance. Yes, it is knee length, thus the “coat” status. But the 100% nylon fabric is super lightweight, and there’s no lining, so I see it as more of a light – albeit, long – jacket for a cool or wet summer evening. I probably won’t win this debate, but 40% off this UK-made jack-coat at East Dane is a great consolation prize.
