Ivanka Trump’s Footwear Line Is Made in a Sweatshop

According to a new report from Racked, workers at the Chinese factory that makes Ivanka Trump’s footwear line are subjected to exceptionally long hours and meager pay.

A series of interviews with current and former employees of the factory, which has produced more than 130,000 pounds of Ivanka Trump brand shoes, revealed a number of workplace indignities and local labor law violations.

Typically, shifts last from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with two one-hour meal breaks, but when deadlines have to be met, workers are sometimes required to stay until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. What’s more, numerous employees accused the factory of routinely withholding wages, sometimes for up to eight weeks, in order to make it more difficult for them to leave. And the wages themselves are well below the state-mandated minimums.
