Ivanka Trump’s Brand Sued for “Unfair Competition”

Ivanka Trump’s clothing line has been hit with a class action lawsuit over “unfair competition.”

Filed in the Superior Court of the State of California by the San Francisco-based retailer, Modern Appealing Clothing (MAC), the suit alleges that Ivanka Trump’s brand, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC, has an unfair advantage in the marketplace due to, “Donald J. Trump being the President of the United States and from Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared, working for the President.”

MAC is mainly referring to the free publicity obtained when President Trump promoted his daughter’s brand on Twitter after it was dropped by Nordstrom, and when Counselor to the President, Kellyanne Conway, plugged the brand on Fox & Friends, telling viewers to “go out and buy it” – a possible violation of federal law, although Conway has yet to face repercussions from the White House Ethics committee.

Though the two promos may seem small or unintentional, they appear to have worked in Ivanka’s favor. Despite widespread boycotts and being dropped by several major retailers, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC’s sales increased by 346% from January to February, and 557% in February, compared to last year.

MAC is seeking restitution of monetary damages and a restraining order to prohibit the brand from being sold in the state of California.
