Valentine’s Day with kids sucks. Don’t get me wrong, they are the cutest things in the world when they’re handing each other little bags filled with red, white, and pink candy hearts, and cards with a shovel on it that says “I DIG YOU!” But they don’t give a shit. They’ll forget all about the cards and baggies you made for their class, not to mention the construction paper card-box shaped like a Pokeball that took you three hours to put together. And they sure as hell don’t care if mommy and daddy come to class to sit on those little ass chairs to watch them be nice to each other for 15 minutes.
Of course, I don’t want to look like the one sociopath parent who hates Valentine’s Day, so some semblance of “getting into the spirit” is required. Instead of going for the big, Kool-Aid Man-esque red top, I’ll opt for subdued navys, grays, and creams, on top of some festive sneakers so no one can say I didn’t try. Now let’s hope little man gets to bed early so mommy and daddy can have a little Valentine’s Day fun, if you know what I mean. That’s right, THIS IS US MARATHON NIIIIIGHT!
