Welcome to Cool Dads™, a series in which our resident cool dad, Nick Grant, helps us all get dressed.
You were just trying to be nice when you finally spoke to the parents of the child your kid always talks about, and extended the fake “we should get together for a play date” invitation. You didn’t think they’d actually take you up on it. But then they sent a “what kind of booze do you like?” text, so it may not be so bad. Plus, it’s a chance to wear your nicer, more casual gear that you can only bring out every once in a while due to your job’s wardrobe restrictions, while letting your kid tear up someone else’s house for a change.
Your denim may look like your grandmammy patched ’em for you, and your bomber looks as if it was a part of “Stranger Things” halloween costume, but at least they won’t ask you how much either cost… unless they already know you spend an ungodly amount of money on clothing, or if your supple army trainers give you away. Either way, break out the nice bottle of wine and, if they’re down, the Cards Against Humanity deck, and this may be the start of a beautiful new friendship. For your kids too, I guess, but who cares.
