The Best Shit We Got All Year: 2016 in Review

Once again, Nick and I are closing out the year by rounding-up the best items we bought (or were gifted) during the last 365 days. But before we get into that, I’d like to thank all of you for reading, commenting, sharing, and doing all of the other wonderful things that you do. And of course, an enormous thank you to our wonderful advertisers – without your support, there wouldn’t be a Well Spent. We’ll be back the first week in January. Until then, have a great holiday, and here’s the best shit we got all year.

Ami Carrot Fit Trousers – I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of salt & pepper wool trousers since Ye’s 808s & Heartbreak stretch. I finally found them and my swag, and nether region, have never been happier.

Four Horsemen Belted Cardigan – The plebs I work with everyday SWEAR this is just a robe, so I always get lip when I wear it…but it’s so good and comfy and awesome that IDGAF.

ASKET Sweatshirt and Oxford – August and the ASKET team just get me. I had to go beyond the conventional sizing society has put forth because I am an abnormally shaped person. Their sweatshirt and oxford gets regular wear.

Ijji Pants – Since I got these, I wear them twice a week. I know the vibe may not resonate with everyone who reads our shit, but goddamn I always feel like I get a fit off when I wear these relaxed, cropped trousers

BONUS: Hardgraft Holdall – OK, so I didn’t write about this bag because it’s $795, but it was DEFINITELY one of – if not the – best thing I got all year. It’s so beautiful, I literally cried when I got it. Fuck, I love this thing.

ASKET Sweatshirt – Of all the consumer-direct labels that have launched in the last few years, Sweden’s ASKET might just be my favorite. Their stuff fits great, is super well-made, and totally affordable. I especially love their sweatshirt because it’s got a really nice vintage cut – meaning it isn’t overly sporty or streetwear-y.

Common Projects Chelsea Work Boots – Definitely my splurge-iest purchase of the year (although, to be fair, I picked them up during a flash sale at Hechler & Nickel for way below retail). CP’s Chelsea Work Boots are sort of a Chelsea / Blundstone hybrid, with a treated suede upper and majorly comfortable crepe rubber sole. A perfect three season boot for city and country. BTW, the black ones are on sale at Need Supply right now, if you’re interested.

Bleu de Paname Rugby Hat – The best ball cap I’ve ever owned. Period. The charcoal gray colorway is sold out everywhere, but Independence still has the indigo one.

Winter Session Waxed Canvas Daypack – I’d been wanting a Winter Session Daypack for a few years before I finally got one this past September, and it was well worth the wait. Not only does it look great, it’s also one of the most thoughtfully designed bags I’ve ever owned. From the laptop sleeve, to the internal pen / pencil case, to the organizer pockets, everything has a place. Plus, the quilted back panel and leather straps make it comfortable to wear too.

Todd Shelton Jeans – Don’t sleep on Todd Shelton. Their jeans are excellently made, have zero branding, or other unnecessary embellishments, and come in a variety of high quality denims. Plus, and this is the best part, you get to customize the fit.
