Under Armour CEO Quits Trump’s Council over Charlottesville

In the wake of Donald Trump’s response (or lack thereof) to the tragic events in Charlottesville, VA last weekend, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank has officially resigned from Donald Trump’s manufacturing council.

Plank made the announcement via Under Armour’s Twitter account, saying, “We remain resolute in our potential and ability to improve American manufacturing. However, Under Armour engages in innovation and sports, not politics.”

He continued, “I am appreciative of the opportunity to have served, but have decided to step down from the council. I love our country and our company and will continue to focus my efforts on inspiring every person that they can do anything through the power of sport which promotes unity, diversity and inclusion.”

As a Fortune story notes, “Plank came under fire earlier this year when he seemed to praise Trump, saying: ‘to have such a pro-business President is something that is a real asset for the country.'”

Plank isn’t the only member that’s left the council since the weekend. Merck CEO, Ken Frazier, and Intel CEO, Brian Krzanich, have also stepped down, citing the same concerns.

And there are other members of Trump’s circle that are taking a public stand, as well. Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein — the bullpen manager for Trump’s cabinet — tweeted, “Lincoln: ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand.’ Isolate those who try to separate us. No equivalence w/ those who bring us together.”
