A Whole Bunch of Brands Are About to Go Bankrupt

According to a Fitch Ratings report, seven once dominant retailers including Sears, True Religion, and Nine West, are at high risk of going bankrupt.

Analysts cite the same causes for each company’s potential shuttering: declining mall traffic; the rise of e-commerce; lack of compelling products; the growing popularity of discount behemoths like Walmart; and shifts in consumer spending away from apparel and toward experiences, like dining out and entertainment.

If and when these retailers default, Fitch reports that, because they’re retailers, they’re three times more likely to be liquidated than revamped.
