Last week, two major retailers, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, dropped Ivanka Trump’s apparel and accessory lines from their stores.
While Nordstrom cites poor sales for the decision, and Neiman Marcus has yet to offer an explanation, the change comes in the midst of the months-long #GrabYourWallet campaign against Trump-affiliated brands. The campaign’s founder, Shannon Coulter, put together a comprehensive spreadsheet that lists what companies sell Trump products, how many items they have in stock, and directions on how to contact each company’s corporate HQ.
After Nordstrom made the announcement last Thursday, Coulter tweeted, “The cause and effect here is very clear. Over 230,000 Tweets and who knows how many millions of dollars’ worth of missed purchases later, they finally heard us.”
In addition to those targeted by #GrabYourWallet, other companies have also faced backlashes for their perceived support of the new president, such as Uber, which lost 200,000 users after it was discovered that the company’s CEO, Travis Kalanick, had a seat on Trump’s Advisory Council. He has since stepped down from the position.
As Coulter put it, “The people who voted against Donald Trump may have lost at the ballot box, but they can win at the cash register.”
