According to an internal memo obtained by Politico, L.L.Bean CEO, Stephen Smith, has offered to help company employees affected by Trump’s immigration ban.
In the memo, which was sent via email on February 2nd, Smith wrote, “Recent national policy changes… [are] creating confusion and concern within our family of great employees.” He then went on to say that L.L.Bean supports “diversity to create a stronger organization and a better world,” and stated his commitment to helping employees affected by the ban, “in any way possible.”
In 2007, L.L.Bean received an Excellence in Diversity Leadership award from the NAACP for hiring a number of refugees from Somalia – one of the seven predominantly Muslim countries on Trump’s banned list – to work at their factory in Lewiston, ME.
The company still remains on the #GrabYourWallet list of Trump-affiliated companies to boycott, due to the sizable campaign donation made by current board member, and granddaughter of the company’s founder, Linda Bean.
