It is 88 degrees and muggy as fuck here in Des Moines, but I’m already dipping my proverbial sweaty stick into the heavy outerwear pool. While great weather is top notch and I know I will be cursing the gods come January, there is nothing better than a nice, warm jacket on a cold, cold day. The US-made Batten-Down Deck Jacket from Battenwear is just four-playing the shit out of me with its 60/40 fabric shell that’s wind- and water-resistant, ribbed collar and cuffs, and quilted down interior to keep the elements out and your body heat in. It even has angled pockets and a two-way zip; details that are aesthetically pleasing and fundamentally functional. It’s like it wants me to pray for temps in the teens, strong winds and a light snow flurry. I may not be ready to give up this weather just yet, but I will (eventually) give in to the powers of this $590 beast for a very sensual winter.
