These Nubuck Holiday Sneakers from French footwear brand, Veja, are made (in a fair trade factory in Brazil) using nubuck that’s tanned with vachellia. And what is vachellia, you ask? According to Wikipedia, it’s “a genus of flowering plants in the legume family… commonly known as thorn trees or shittah trees.” Yes, you read that right, shittah trees. These shoes are made with leather that’s colored using shittah trees. If that doesn’t totally make you want to pick up a pair, just so you can tell people that every time you wear them, well then, you and I are very different people. Three shitta-tree-based colors are available.
