And Now Rentable Streetwear Is a Thing

Forget dropping $800 for a BOGO hoodie, the era of rented streetwear is upon us. According to Glossy, a pair of Rent the Runway-style services are now offering what would normally be maniacally-priced streetwear for around $25-$45 a day.

Called The Mercer Club and Rotarity, respectively, these new companies are betting that the insane success that Rent the Runway has achieved on the womenswear side — the service was recently valued at $1 billion — is replicable on the men’s side by making the most hyped streetwear available (and affordable) all the time.

As the story notes, “there are no shortage of [resale] platforms catering to streetwear… But rental, the other alternative ownership model, is much rarer in the space,” something the article attributes to the previously glacial pace of mens trends. However, now that mens fashion is “more dynamic and… moving much faster,” mens rental services could very well become a lucrative thing.

“As men’s fashion outpaces women’s in growth,” the story says, it’s “creating an opportunity. Customers now have more reason to cycle through a large amount of clothing, making renting more appealing.”
