Veja Indigenos High Tops

The Indigenos High Tops from France’s Veja are made in a FLO-Cert and EcoLabel certified factory in Brazil, out of vegetable-tanned leather, sustainably harvested Amazonian rubber and Fair Trade certified 100% organic cotton. They’re also nice looking. And… that’s all I got. Hickorees has ‘em, and they’re on sale. Read More »

Finisterre Coho Sweatshirts

When is a sweatshirt, more than just a sweatshirt? I don’t actually know the answer to that, as these are definitely just sweatshirts. But, they’re really, really nice ones. Handcrafted in an ISO 9001 certified factory in Portugal from Oko-Tex 100 certified 100% organic cotton (so many certifications!), the Coho Sweatshirts from Finisterre are as comfortable as they are well made, and as eco-friendly as they are good-looking (so many as-blank-as-they-are-blanks!). Taylor Stitch x Buckshot Sonny’s Yosemite Shirts

Gentleman, meet your new favorite shirt: the Taylor Stitch x Buckshot Sonny’s Yosemite Shirt. Cut and sewn in San Fransisco from insane-o soft, 100% organic cotton chamois cloth, the TSBSYS is the kind of comfortable that makes you wish it was socially acceptable to wear the same thing every single day. Details include a soft point collar, two flap chest pockets (with a pencil slot on the left), single button rounded cuff, pleat-less back and sleeves, and a bang-on perfect fit. Read More »

TWOTHIRDS Sabon Cardigan

Fun fact: not only is organic cotton less harmful to the environment than conventional cotton, it’s softer too. In addition to being highly poisonous (to everything), chemical pesticides also break down cotton’s fibers, significantly reducing their smoothness. Organic cotton, however, has all its fibers intact, giving it a much silkier hand. Which makes it ideal for products like the Sabon Cardigan from San Sebastian’s TWOTHIRDS (took a minute, but I got us there). Read More »

Hessnatur Organic Cotton Sweater

As much as I love wool, there are definitely times when I can do without the itchiness. Enter the Organic Cotton Sweater from Germany’s Hessnatur. Handcrafted in a Fair Trade certified factory in Turkey from low-impact dye treated 100% organic cotton, the sweater offers all the warmth of wool, but with an infinitely softer hand (also, could it be more socially responsible?)(a Friends reference? really?). Details include raglan sleeves, tall button-up collar, and ribbed cuffs and hem. Read More »

Left Field NYC AW11 Organic Chinos

For those who haven’t heard, the complete AW11 collection from Left Field NYC is now live on the brand’s site. Along with the previously blogged heavy terry sweats, and some ridicu-gorgeous twill tartan shirts, this season’s line-up also includes two colorways (one old, one new) of the co.’s much-loved Organic Chinos. Handcrafted in Los Angeles from medium-weight, American grown and woven organic cotton canvas, the pants are as tough as they are environmentally responsible, and prime for the cooler temps ahead. Maggie’s Organics Cotton Crew Socks

Exposed ankle season is all but over, so I guess it’s probably a good time to start thinking about socks. The Organic Cotton Crew Socks from Maggie’s Organics are made in a family owned factory in North Carolina from certified Fair Trade and organic cotton. Designed with versatility in mind, the medium-weight socks can be worn with boots, wingtips, and just about everything in between. Read More »

Hessnatur Organic Cotton Waxed Jacket

Why should I buy the Waxed Jacket from Hessnatur instead of one from a certain iconic British maker, you ask? Well, for one, the Hessnatur jacket is made from 100% organic cotton, and treated with all-natural beeswax, so it’s a lot more earth-friendly. Two, it’s cut and sewn in a certified Fair Trade factory in the EU, so you know the people that made it are well treated and paid an equitable wage. Three, its plaid liner is made from 100% virgin wool instead of cotton, so it’s warmer. And four, the Hessnatur jacket costs almost $100 less. Read More »

The Friday Find: Left Field NYC SS11 Clearance

What’s on sale RIGHT NOW.

Brooklyn’s Left Field NYC has just marked down all remaining pieces of from its SS11 collection, including US-made t-shirts, polos, button-ups, shorts, chinos and summer-weight sweats. Discounts range from 20% – 30%, and will stay in place for as long as the items are in stock (so not very long at all). Needless to say, this will be your last chance at most of this stuff, so I’d advise you quit reading this, and get over there while there’s still some left to be had. Read More »

Knowledge Twisted Twill Chinos

There are some brands I just can’t say enough good things about, and Denmark’s Knowledge Cotton Apparel is one of them. Between their extensive use of sustainable materials, strict adherence to responsible business practices, and the excellent design and quality construction of their clothing, the label really is in a class all its own. The Twisted Twill Chinos are handcrafted in the EU from low-impact dye treated 100% organic cotton. Read More »

Metsa Hand-Dyed Shirts

Leave it to the makers at Toronto’s Metsa to transform something as innocuous as a short-sleeve button-up into a full-on piece of wearable art (that’s actually wearable). After being assembled (in Canada), the shirts are dyed one-at-a-time using 100% natural and biodegradable colorants (indigo for the blue stripe, pomegranate for the yellow and a pomegranate / root madder mix for the red). The resulting hues give a subtle, worn-in feel, that, thanks to their eco-origins, will continue to evolve with wear and use. Read More »

Autonomie Project Ethletic Sneakers

This isn’t the first time these have made an appearance on the site, but I figured it’s been long enough that a refresher was in order (especially in light of this). Arguably the single most ethical line of shoes in existence, the Ethletic Sneakers (see what they did there?) from Boston’s Autonomie Project are Fair Trade made in Pakistan from 100% organic cotton and sustainably harvested Brazilian latex rubber. As classic looking as they are responsibly made, the sneakers are a handsome summer go-to, that you can feel good about all year long. Read More »

Anvil 50/50 Heather T-Shirts

The 50/50 Heather T-Shirts from Anvil Knitwear are responsibly made in South America from a 4.8 oz. 50% organic cotton / 50% post-consumer recycled P.E.T. polyester blend. Like the co.’s previously blogged all-organic tees, the 50/50s feature a slim fit, tube construction (no side-seams), and a jaw-droppingly low price. There are seven colors to choose from (twelve if you count the non-heathers), and each will run you about $13 shipped (I wasn’t kidding about jaw-dropping). Read More »

Metsa Lined Striped Shorts

The Lined Striped Shorts from Toronto’s Metsa are lovingly handcrafted in Canada from a beautiful Japanese organic cotton / flax / ramie blend (seriously though, how nice is that fabric?). Designed to keep you comfortable when the mercury is high, the shorts come with a baby-butt soft pima cotton lining, which falls separately from the outer layer, creating more room for air to circulate (pretty clever). Additional details include hand-rolled porcelain buttons (which are made in the designer’s family’s pottery studio), and a hidden pocket on the thigh. Read More »

The Friday Find: Velour Shirting Sale at Penelope’s

Chicago boutique Penelope’s has just marked down its entire stock of button-up shirts from Sweden’s Velour. There are five summer-ready styles to choose from, all of which are made out of kitten-soft 100% organic cotton.
