Sunny Sports Fisherman Jackets

By Michael Nolledo

In the name of the Poplin, the Tweed and the Holy Corduroy, Amen. Don’t mind me – I’m just doing a quick sign of the cross for the holy trinity of textures found on these Sunny Sports Fisherman Jackets. Made in Japan, the jackets combine a poly-cotton poplin shell, corduroy collar and tweed pockets for quite the saintly effect. Read More »

The Friday Find: Sunny Sports Sneakers at Smith + Butler

What’s on sale RIGHT NOW.

Yes, I realize these Sunny Sports slip-ons aren’t for everyone, but, if you are one of the ones they’re for, take note: Brooklyn’s Smith + Butler has ‘em and they’re 40% off. The details: canvas upper, rubber sole, made in Japan, and fan-freaking-tastic looking (IMO, of course). Rumor has it they run big, so order accordingly. Read More »

Sunny Sports Corduroy Shirts

I have an uncharacteristic soft spot for Japan’s Sunny Sports: they’re one of a very small number of brands that I don’t spite for having super high prices. That could be because of how well made their stuff is. Or, maybe it’s because it fits so good. Whatever the reason, I just can’t stay mad at them for charging what they do. But holy crap, they do charge a lot. Read More »

Town Craft Classic BD Shirts

A part of me feels compelled to explain the whole history of Town Craft, and how it was a JCPenney in-house brand, and still is to some degree, but that these aren’t actually by JCPenny, and instead by a Japanese label that bought the licensing rights to the name, and that the label is owned by Sunny Sports creator Shinya Kitahara. But you don’t really need to know all that (though, I guess you kind of do know it now). Read More »

Instead of Rent: August, 2011

The moderately and (very) immoderately priced goods that I’d rather spend it on this month.

The Friday Find: Sunny Sports Shorts Sale at OC

What’s on sale RIGHT NOW.

Opening Ceremony has just knocked 30% off its entire collection of shorts from Japan’s Sunny Sports. Six styles are available, all of which are painstakingly handcrafted in Japan from (crazy-ass looking) Japanese fabrics. Details vary between pairs (some have button closures and welt pockets, others have drawstring closures and patch pockets), but you can count on every one having a slim leg, and an incredible degree of quality. Remaining sizes are spotty, but, SS tends to run pretty small, so you’ll probably be okay going a size larger than usual if need be. Read More »

Sunny Sports Slip-On Sneakers

Some of you might hate these, and that’s fine if you do. I, however, would happily wear the hell out of them for the rest of the summer (and long after). For those who feel similarly: the Slip-On sneakers from Sunny Sports are expertly crafted in Japan using all Japanese materials. Available in two of the funnest (yeah, that’s right, funnest) patterns you’ll see this season, the shoes take go-to-hell to a whole new and wonderful level. Milkmade has them, and they’re on sale (huzzah!). Read More »

Sunny Sports Chambray Shorts

As silly as it may sound, I really think you have to go hands-on with the pieces from Japan’s Sunny Sports in order to fully appreciate them. As the owner of two of their shirts, I can tell you that when it comes to craftsmanship and attention to detail, SS’ stuff is pretty much the holy grail (which more or less explains the price, although, still, yowsa!). The co.’s new-for-summer Chambray Shorts are handcrafted in Japan from vintage-shuttle-loomed 100% cotton chambray. Read More »

Being There: Wearing (capsule) AW/11

Instead of competing with the other, much better coverage of this week’s (capsule) AW/11 show, I thought I’d do a quickie round-up of (what I thought were) some of the real stand-out pieces. Full details on what’s pictured after the jump. And apologies for the crumminess of the images.

Sunny Sports Organic Chambray Work Shirt

I usually try to stay within a pretty set price-range when deciding what to cover on the site. Namely, mine. Most often, if I can’t afford it, I don’t write about it (short of a few exceptions). At $200 (and that’s the sale price!), the Sunny Sports Organic Chambray Work Shirt from Brooklyn’s C.H.C.M. Shop would normally be one of those no-fly items. But, I’ve decided to go ahead feature it anyway. Why? For the same reason I would still visit an art gallery full of pieces I’ll never be able to own, or look at images of an exotic location I’ll never be able to visit. Read More »
