Pointer Woodland Camo Jacket

By Michael Nolledo

Take a step back, menswear world. Back from the crazy tropical prints, the too-bright florals, and the non-camouflaging camos. All things in moderation guys, even trends. And with that said, I present to you the Pointer Woodland Camo Jacket – a perfect example of camo in moderation. Read More »

Pointer Brown Duck Barn Coats

Man, it’s getting cold out there. Like, US-made duck canvas outer, wool blanket lining inner, cotton corduroy collar cold. If only there were a jacket for this kind of weather. And, yeah, you see where I’m going here. It’s a new coat from Pointer. It’s warm. It’s handsome. It’s affordable. And there there you have it. Read More »

Seven Questions: Inland Clothing

Let’s face it, buying American rarely means buying affordable. Due to our country’s (very necessary) laws and regulations regarding compensation, factory conditions, environmental impact, etc., producing goods here costs more, which means the products do too. Add to that the expense of quality materials and fabrications, and prices can go from high to downright prohibitive. However, there are still bargains out there. Durable items that are made in America by workers paid an equitable wage, but don’t require a bank loan to buy. And now, thanks to the newly launched e-tailer Inland Clothing, those items have never been easier to find.

Inspiration is Where You Find It: Jackson Pollock

By Jake Gallagher

Decades before kids were tossing Sherwin Williams samples onto their best (or is it worst?) pair of dad jeans in an effort to look edgy, there was the originator, Jackson Pollock. Pollock’s paint stains weren’t some Tumblr-inspired backyard arts and crafts project gone off the rails, they were battle scars from a never ending fight with the canvas. Read More »

Pointer Banded Collar Jackets

When a 100 year old company that’s named after a canine breed comes out with a new product, you’d think the old dog / new tricks jokes would write themselves. But, as I have yet to come up with a single one in the last hour, it appears not. So, I’ll just move on, tail between my legs. The Banded Collar Jackets from Pointer are made in Tennessee, entirely from American materials. Read More »

Pointer Tote Bags

Did you know that Pointer, the brand behind those super affordable and tough-as-nails Chore Jackets, also makes totes? Well, they do, and they’re pretty great. Made in the same Tennessee factory, out of the same American materials, to the same high level of quality, and priced just as reasonably. Nothing but good news there. Read More »

Pointer Shawl Collar Jackets

Exciting news from Tennessee’s Pointer Brand. Not only has the co. given their website a much needed makeover, they’ve also added a handful of new, limited edition products to their range, including these excellent Shawl Collar Jackets. Cut and sewn in the label’s own 100 year old factory, the jackets are made from lightweight, 100% cotton denim, and feature two patch pockets on the front and polished nickel buttons. Read More »

Well Spent X Woven Society

A new e-commerce site launched a few weeks ago, and it’s called Woven Society. In their own words, Woven “believe[s] you can make smart purchasing decisions instead of reacting to the latest trend, [and that] a product should last as long as you want it to.” Clearly, concepts I can get behind. Anyway, the founders of the site asked me to curate a sale for them. Read More »

Tennessee’s Pointer Brand is turning 98 this month. And to celebrate the occasion, the co. is offering 10% off everything in its online store, including its much-loved Chore Coats (that was probably implied by “everything,” but whatever). NorthernGRADE: Pointer Black Label Chore Coats

Of course, no NorthernGRADE 2011 wrap-up would be complete without a mention of Buckshot Sonny’s, the new store from my good buddies Max Wastler and Joe Gannon. The pair put together quite a selection for the event, the standout of which – for me at least – were the exclusive Pointer Black Label Chore Coats (that’s right, camo Pointers!). Unfortunately, they didn’t have my size. But, I heard rumor that a re-up is happening in the very near future, so hopefully that won’t be case for much longer (hint, hint). Read More »

Good Giving: 25 Under $25

Welcome to the 2010 Well Spent holiday gift guide. I’m trying something a little different this year: 25 gifts, all socially responsible, and all under $25. Small things, but (hopefully) a bit more substantive and enduring than your typical stocking stuffers. Here’s to a healthy and sane holiday season.
