Despite only releasing two studio albums, Joy Division’s influence can still be seen today. Favoring thoughtful introspection and moody atmospherics over the traditional three-chord blast of punk, the band helped usher in – and eventually became the poster children for – the post-punk movement. Though their run was cut short by the untimely suicide of front-man Ian Curtis, their legacy as one of the most groundbreaking acts of all time lives on. And that legacy isn’t just due to their music. If there were ever a band that could be described as “cohesive” it’s Joy Division. From their album art, to their press photos, to their clothes, their visual side always matched their audible one. Read More »

For you rein-takers in the former: these new MTO Shirts from Epaulet are something to be very excited about. Not only do you get to choose the fabric, you also have control over the length, cut, button type, and just about every other detail. Read More »

After feasting your eyes on these US-made Polka Dot Shirts from Epaulet, you might feel a bit dazed. That’s because their large polka dots, slim fit and American roll collar create an optical illusion that makes any dude wearing one look like a master of the perfectly pulled-off style risk. Epaulet’s Rivet Chino is definitely not menswear’s best-kept secret. This is – no joke – the fifth time Well Spent has featured some version of the pant. But it’s for good reason: they’re affordable, classic and now available in lightweight, 8 oz. cotton canvas. Read More »

As any Olive Garden restuarant will prove, American takes on Italian classics don’t always turn out so great. Fortunately, the Americans doing the take in this particular instance are also the founders of one of the best menswear shops in the country. The new Napoli Unstructured Sportcoats from Brooklyn’s Epaulet are expertly made in Massachusetts by Southwick. Read More »

Ya crazy for this one, Mike! Because why the hell not, Epaulet is now offering their iconic Rivet Chinos in 100% cotton oxford cloth. No less tough than the other Rivet Chino models (thanks to their made in USA construction and slew of make-em-last details), but far better suited for warm-weather wear (because oxford cloth), the OCRCs will keep you looking good and feeling good all summer long. And the hits just keep on coming from New York’s Epaulet. Their new Rivet Chino Service Pants offer the same great fit and construction of the store’s much-loved regular Rivet Chinos, but, feature a handful of new design details, including button-through flap pockets in the back and a single cargo pocket on the left thigh. Epaulet’s exclusive Thorogood No. 685 Boots are also getting the sale treatment this week. Union-made in an employee-owned factory in Wisconsin, the exceptionally sturdy stompers feature a “Crazy Horse” cowhide upper, Goodyear welt, and cork-filled rubber sole. Just about every size is still in stock. Get ‘em while you can. Read More »

At this rate, Epaulet may very well negate the need for other men’s stores before the year’s through. Between how varied their in-house collection has become, and how well done the items are, there’s virtually no reason to shop anywhere else. Their latest offering, the Slim Walt Light Grey Flannel Cargo Trousers, are cut and sewn in NYC from medium-weight wool. Read More »

Facts: the sky is blue. Grass is green. And Epaulet Rivet Chinos are some of the best American-made pants on the market. And now, you can get ‘em in corduroy. Per the Epaulet site, “Bedford cord is a kind of brawny cousin of traditional corduroy… the weave has subtle lengthwise ridges; however, Bedford cord lacks the filling yarns that make corduroy wales so pronounced… [and] is therefore less textured and less delicate, making it a great everyday casual pant that you won’t have to dote over.” ‘Dote over,’ love it. Hey, did you hear that Epaulet started making belts? Well they did. And they’re great (no surprise there). Part of the store’s all-Maine-made “Sewn by Hand” collection, the Single Prong Belts “combine phenomenal materials with meticulous workmanship to yield a handsome and long-lasting item that gains character with wear” (works for me). There are three models to choose from (brown Chromexcel, black Chromexcel and unfinished English bridle leather), and each features an antiqued solid brass silvertone buckle, handsewn keeper with cream-toned waxed thread, and a super versatile 1.25″ width. In why didn’t they think of that sooner news: NYC’s Epaulet is now offering a short-legged version of their world famous Rivet Chinos (short-legged meaning shorts, not pants for people with stubby-legs). Still painstakingly handcrafted in Los Angeles, and from the same top-notch British fabrics, the RCSs boast all the quality and comfort of their long-legged counterparts, but in a much more warm weather friendly form (alliterate much?). Two colorways are available, and I heartily endorse picking up both. Read More »

Problem: you want to wear a white button up, but it’s too hot to also wear an undershirt. Solution: the EP’s White Chambray Utility Shirt from Epaulet. Made in Los Angeles from naturally whitened, 100% cotton Japanese chambray, the shirt’s thick enough to keep your nipples hidden (the double chest pockets help that too), but thin enough to still be comfortable when the mercury is high.
