Save Khaki Explorer Shorts

As I’ve never done much exploring myself, I’m going to have to defer to our more outdoorsy readers on this one: does anybody know why these US-made Explorer Shorts from Save Khaki have snaps on the leg openings? I mean, is that a thing you need when you’re climbing a mountain, or hiking through a forest – the ability to splay the hem of your shorts? I understand all of the other details, like the front and back snap pockets, slant hip pockets and drawstring waist, it’s just those hem buttons. Oh well, at 30% off, I guess I’m fine not knowing.

Snaps are for range of motion adjustment: snap for the slim, modern look, unsnap to hop on your bike or throw your leg up while climbing. Not sure I get the execution here, though. Seems like these are for the coffee shop rather than actually getting dirty.
