Portland General Store Hunting Camp Soap

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Portland General Store. From the efficacy of their products, to the quality of their ingredients, to the handsomeness of their branding – there’s simply no other all-natural toiletry company operating on the same level. Their newly released Hunting Camp Soap is made from ground pumice, sandalwood powder, frankincense powder, spikenard powder, activated charcoal and various moisturizing natural oils. Because of its unique make-up, the soap not only cleans your skin, it also exfoliates it, moisturizes it, and leaves it smelling great (seriously, I’ve used it, and it’s true.). I honestly can’t think of any other cleanser – all-natural or otherwise – that does as much. And that’s not just the fanboy in me talking.

The big challenge I have with most soaps is they leave my skin dry and scratchy–even supposedly moisturizing soaps. How does the Portland General Store soap perform in this regard. I’ve been wanting to try one of those big square chunks of Savon de Marseilles that are 72% olive oil.

      Hey Josh,

I have a similar problem. The PGS soap is definitely one of the better moisturizing soaps I’ve used. I don’t feel dried out after using it, nor do I feel like I’ve got a film left on me (a problem I’ve had with most other moisturizing soaps).

If you’re super sensitive / dried out, then maybe that olive oil soap is good idea. Just be sure there’s nothing bad in it. The more sensitive your skin, the more of a reaction you’ll have to synthetics and additives. A good rule of thumb is five ingredients or less – and you should be able to pronounce all of them.

It might also be good to find out what how hard / soft your water is. Hard water = equals dry skin, no matter what kind of cleansers you use.

      Hope that helps,

      bb

I’d try it out, but the shipping in the US is $2.50, and the shipping in Canada where I live is $11??

    Hi Andy,

We prefer to ship priority for International orders. However, if you visit our site portlandgenerslstore.com, you can select the method of shipping that you prefer. Etsy doesn’t allow that option.

    Best,
    PGS

I’ve been looking for a male soap…especially one that is inspired by ‘men of the hunt’, as PGS claims. Will check it out. Thank you for the suggestion. You all have a great collection.
    Cheerio!
