Seeking to close the loop between fabricator and customer, Madrid’s IOU Project uses social technology to connect the people buying their goods with those that craft them. Every product IOU sells comes with a unique code that can be scanned with a smartphone to show images and profiles of the people who made it. The customer can then upload a photo of themselves wearing the item for the makers to see, thus bringing the production full circle. The City Shorts are ethically crafted in the EU, using handwoven and naturally dyed cotton madras from India. The fit is slim, the fabrics range from subdued to wild, and the price per is surprisingly reasonable.
